Ferndale Primary School is proud of its diverse community. As part of this, we have a pupil Diversity group, following on from the successful, original group, which was made up of staff, parents, the local community and those in local roles. The aim of the group is to improve diversity awareness and culture across school. Originally the Shadow Diversity group of children shared their views into the main group and are now running this. They are part of our Junior Leadership Team.
To date, the Diversity group have held surveys, produced newsletters, supported event planning, talked to parents, facilitated staff and parent training and functioned under terms of reference and professional standards. The group was accountable to the Governing Body. The Equality Award GOLD was achieved as part of the work of this group and was celebrated in our Diversity festival in 2022. The school then gained OUTSTANDING in Personal Development in the most recent OFSTED inspection. The impact of the group will be measured periodically via methods such as surveys and pupil voice linked to awareness and understanding.
